Location: Camberwell, London

Do you have the aptitude and drive to volunteer for a role that’s varied and rewarding and provides an opportunity for both personal and career growth? Then join St Giles Trust as a Volunteer Employment Support Worker and you could be embarking on a fulfilling part-time position that fits in with your other commitments.

About us

A well-established charity that helps ex-offenders and disadvantaged people to move their lives forward, St. Giles Trust offers support to help people overcome any issues that might be holding them back. Often, this is provided by the people who know best how to help – those who have been there themselves.

About the role

You will be responsible for providing a support service to ‘Pathways to Employment’ clients, so they can achieve sustainable employment and social inclusion. You will help clients work on their action plans and addressing barriers to taking up employment, plus provide vital mentoring and encouragement to help them make progress with their action plan and avoid re-offending.

Keeping accurate, legible records of interventions undertaken with clients and progress made is an essential requirement of this role, as is using the internet to research job, volunteer and training opportunities for clients.

To secure this great opportunity, you must have:

  • A proven track record and knowledge of how to find and apply for jobs
  • Experience of working successfully with challenging people, for example, people who have complex needs
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of providing support, advice and advocacy
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills, plus the ability to use monitoring systems
  • A flexible and collaborative approach to work
  • Some knowledge of the benefit system, including Job Seekers Allowance and in-work benefit

In return you can expect your travel expenses reimbursed, luncheon vouchers, a discount scheme, a mentoring programme and a dedicated advice and counselling service.

Please note this role will be subject to DBS checks.
