ETE & IAG Trainer (Ref: TAB-171)

Salary: £25,526 - £30,476 p/a (35 hours per week)

Contract: Fixed Term MAT Cover – 6 months

Location: This post can be based in HMP Peterborough or HMP Bedford travel across both sites will be required.

A well-established charity that helps ex-offenders and disadvantaged people to move their lives forward, St. Giles Trust offers support to help people overcome any issue that might be holding them back. Part of the government’s Transforming Rehabilitation programme, the Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Community Rehabilitation Company delivers a range of services to offenders due for release from prison. Our principle task is to reduce reoffending and make our communities safer by working with prisoners as they progress through their Sentence Plan. It's here that we need your help.

What you will be doing:

  • Recruiting, supporting and developing individuals in custody with the relevant skills, motivation and aptitude to become Peer Advisors and working with colleagues to identify and secure suitable placements.
  • Delivering a tailored training programme to enable learners to achieve City & Guilds Level 3 Advice and Guidance qualifications and complete work placements.
  • Planning and delivering Employment, Training and Education (ETE) workshops and 1-2-1 interventions in order to achieve the required target for the service.
  • Working to OFSTED and Matrix standards and accurately recording and monitoring all peer and ETE activity in line with service requirements.
  • Coordinating promotion and marketing for the project, including using promotional materials, making presentation and attending forums and conferences.

And what you will need:

  • An A1 Assessors qualification or willingness to train towards one, plus a proven ability to assess learners in work situations and help them achieve a Level 3 qualification.
  • An understanding of the issues facing individuals with multiple and complex needs whilst in prison and on release.
  • A proven ability to deliver high quality training and support to groups and individuals, including adults who face barriers to learning, using a range of approaches.
  • A flexible approach and a flair for building effective working relationships with other staff, volunteers and various teams within a multidisciplinary prison environment.
  • A willingness to take responsibility for adapting to meet the changing needs of the service, sometimes with very little notice.
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to complete learner paperwork and use monitoring systems to record actions and outcomes and prepare reports in a variety of formats.
